Great Houghton, Barnsley
Our specialist residential service providing high standards of support, personal care and accommodation for adults aged 18 years and over who have a learning disability, autism and complex needs including behaviour that may challenge. 

We offer a person centred approach, which aims to support people to develop increasing levels of independence as far as this is possible and for each person to achieve a higher quality of life. 

We offer opportunities to learn new skills, become more independent and try new experiences.  We encourage individuals to be active members of the community including using local shops and cafes on a regular basis, looking for volunteering opportunities, working on our community allotment project and accessing courses at local colleges and libraries.

We offer more than somewhere to live, we are offering somewhere to make a home.  We ensure individuals are included in all decisions about their care and support, either directly or through carers, family or advocate. 


Our experienced staff deliver personalised care and support 24 hours a day.  Every member of staff has completed a comprehensive induction & benefits from continuous professional development.

Resource Centre

We have a spacious and adaptable
resource centre which enables the individuals we support to participate in activities such as cookery, arts, crafts and games. The Resource Centre is also equipped with games consoles and a big screen for movies.

 

The service provides nine ensuite bedrooms, separate sensory bathroom and lounges which are used for activities, games and quiet time.  The individuals we support also can access the resource centre which has an adapted kitchen and a multi media kit.

There is Wi-Fi throughout allowing individuals to stay in touch with family and friends, access e-learning and use the internet.  The service has its own garden areas including a sensory garden and sunken trampoline. 
 
There is also a four one bedroom self-contained apartments some with a separate garden area. All bedrooms have been designed to maintain a homely environment but remain robust and appropriate to the individuals we support's needs, which can be changed as needs change

John Street is situated in a residential area of Great Houghton, Barnsley and close to a wealth of community facilities including local shops, pubs and local parks. The service is close to Barnsley and has good bus and rail links to the surrounding areas
